La sensibilité dentaire se caractérise par une très vive douleur ressentie, non seulement lorsque vous consommez des boissons ou des aliments froids, chauds sucrés ou acides, mais également lorsque vous respirez de l’air froid ou que vous passez de la soie dentaire.

Comment éviter la sensibilité dentaire ?

Afin d’éviter la sensibilité dentaire, il est important de :

• Se brosser les dents au moins deux fois par jour avec une brosse souple et un dentifrice pour dents sensibles.
• Passer la soie dentaire au moins une fois par jour.
• Éviter tout aliment pouvant être très acide ou très sucré.
• Avoir deux visites par an chez votre dentiste.

Qu’est-ce que la prothèse fixe sur implant?

Quatre implants sont placés dans l’os de la mâchoire tandis que la prothèse temporaire est fabriquée et vissée dans les implants. Ceci assure la fixation des dents.

Root canal (endodontic treatment)

At Mag-Dent Dental Center, our aim is primarily to help you keep your natural teeth all your life. However, a damaged tooth may develop a cavity.

A cavity is the result of superficial decay of the tooth enamel. Left long enough, this decay can burrow into the deeper reaches of the tooth, causing extensive damage to its structure. When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, the dentist can perform a root canal (or endodontic treatment) thus preserving the tooth and retaining its original integrity.

Dental implant technology has changed significantly and in doing so has revolutionized care for all patients. Patients wearing dentures who may have been reluctant to get dental help have used different reasons to not seek help such as:

• Worry of living without dentures while the implants integrate with the bone;
• Length of treatment;
• Fear of bone graft procedure;
• Fear of pain;
• Advanced age;
• Cost.

In fact, the traditional procedure requires removal of the teeth, placement of the implants and waiting a couple of months for healing time before having fixed dentures in place.
However, a new alternative is now available. We can now provide in most cases, fixed dentures the same day of surgery. This technique requires a team of skilled professionals. The process is performed with the help of our certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

All-on-4 technique

A minimum of 4 implants are placed in the jaw and the temporary prosthesis is fabricated on-site and inserted immediately. The prosthesis is screwed into the implants, which means the teeth are fixed and not removed in most cases the same day of surgery.

Then 4-6 months after, when the implants are well integrated in the bone (completely healed), we can start the steps to deliver you the final fixed prosthesis.

As with any surgical procedure every case is different and the length of the procedure will vary. Candidates are either completely without teeth or have teeth that cannot be saved. The general medical health of the patient is considered, as in any surgical intervention.

The main criteria for immediate teeth, or more accurately, immediate loading of implants, are that the bone has to be adequate to have an insertion torque of the implants into the bone (they have to be tight in the bone).

In rare cases, if we can’t get the implants stable at time of surgery, we will place the implants and wait the traditional 4-6 months before placing the final prosthesis but you can have a traditional removable prosthesis during the healing time.

Advantages of the All-on-4 technique

• • A faster return to function and work;
  • You can comfortably eat solid foods;
  • Significantly less pain because the denture is not rubbing over where the teeth were removed and the new prosthesis acts as a Band-Aid protecting the site;
  • The procedure does not require bone graft in most cases;
  • This concept has been available for over 10 years and has a very good success rate.

Questions & answers about All-on-4

Is the All-on-4 technique for me?

We need to see you for a dental consultation to make sure that the All-on-4 is the best solution for you. During the dental examination, we will establish your dental needs so we can present you all the treatment plan options available for you.

Do you always use 4 implants?

We use 4 implants most of the time. If necessary (due to poor bone quality or quantity) we will use 5 or 6 implants to improve the stability and longevity of your new teeth.

Do you only offer All-on-4 for dentures on implants?

Other treatments can sometimes be a good options but in most cases, the All-on-4 is a better option.

What are the diet instructions after the implant surgery?

The day of surgery begin with clear fluids and progress slowly eating soft foods (pudding, yogurt, soups, pasta, well-cooked veggies). You should be able to go back to a regular diet in couple of weeks.

How much does the All-on-4 procedure cost?

Each situation is different. This procedure is less costly in comparison with conventional technique of the edentulous and soon-to-be edentulous jaw. It is due to the fact that the bone graft is rarely used in the all-on-4 process and we can use 4 implants instead of using 5 to 8 implants.

Dental crowns

A crown is a permanent covering that fits over an original tooth that is decayed, damaged or cracked. Crowns are used to restore the shape, appearance and function of the damaged teeth. They may also be necessary after a root canal treatment, when a tooth has had a large filling or when it is broken. Crowns are available in a wide variety of materials such as porcelain, gold, acrylic resin or a mix of these materials. However, it is with porcelain crowns that the most natural appearance can be achieved.

The process leading to a crown cementation generally consists of a minimum of two to three visits spread over a period of three to four weeks. Once the procedure is completed, proper dental hygiene, including daily brushing and flossing, is required to maintain healthy, bacteria-free teeth, gums and crowns. This helps in the prevention of gum disease. Given proper care, crowns can last a lifetime.

Neuromuscular dentistry (TMJ)

What can be done?

An initial two-part examination is performed in our office. Using subjective and objective data, we can identify problem areas that we may be able to treat. Additional information may be required including models of your teeth, 3-dimensional x-rays of your joints and photographs.

Since 90% of headaches and facial pain are muscular in origin, our first phase of treatment is to repair your mandibular (lower jaw) posture with the aid of a low frequency TENS unit and a clear orthotic (splint) worn on your lower teeth. In time, your pain complex is relieved and your quality of life improved.

Then what?

Once we have reached this stage, long term prevention is required. For most people, no further dental work is needed. For others, a permanent change in tooth position is achieved through neuromuscular orthodontics or full mouth rehabilitation.

What is tooth whitening?

Dental enamel (the first layer of the teeth) is porous and, over time, pores are stained by dark foods, red wine, coffee, tea and the likes, which make teeth yellow. A special whitening gel composed of carbamide or hydrogen peroxide is applied to the teeth. Tooth whitening then happens when the whitening gel is activated by light and slowly penetrates the pores of the dental enamel by oxidation of the colorations and dark stains.

Mouthguard

Mouthguards are dental appliances that cover the teeth to protect them when a person is playing sports.

Types of mouthguards

There is the prefabricated type, sold in stores, that is more or less adjustable. They are not that expensive but they are bulky and may make breathing more difficult. They do not protect the teeth as well as the other types of mouthguards and, as dental health professionals, we do not recommend them because they harm the teeth more than they protect them.

Functions of clinical mouthguards:

• Reduce the risk of cerebral concussion
• Diminish the risk of a fracture of the jaw and teeth
• Reduce the seriousness of wounds to the soft tissues of the mouth

A mouthguard is recommended for sports practice, competitions of contact sports or other sports presenting a risk of fall or hit, such as: martial arts, baseball, basketball, cycling, boxing, football, handball, hockey, wrestling, roller skating, skateboarding, skiing, soccer, tennis, etc…

Sleep apnea treatment
